There are many organizations using Second Life as a platform for holding meetings, especially where participants are geographically dispersed.  The video below provides an overview of how one organizaton is helping organizations use Second Life for group meetings.  

 

We visited with the founder of Alpine Executive Center in early 2008 and tested the prototype meeting tools they were developing at that time.  Since then they have continued to develop their sim into a commercial destination for virtual meetings.  An excellent example of the types of things that can be done with Second Life to drive real world business communications.
